St. Flannan's Catholic Parish

Social Justice Action Group

Justice, Ecology and Peace Action Group

The St Flannan’s Social Justice Action Group (SJAG4034) was formed late in 2015.

In the Social Justice Statement 2020-2021, the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference renamed the Office for Social Justice to the Office for Justice, Ecology and Peace "to better reflect contemporary Catholic Social Teaching, especially the teachings of Laudato Si' and Fratelli Tutti on integral ecology and peace."

Following the example of our Bishops, St Flannan's Social Justice Action Group (SJAG) has been renamed St Flannan's Justice, Ecology, and Peace Action Group. (JEPAG). The names for our email account - [email protected] and facebook page - St Flannan's Social Justice Action Group - SJAG 4034 have not changed.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month (except January) in the Parish Meeting Room where local social justice issues are discussed and action planned.

New members are most welcome. Please contact SJAG4034 as below:

In the past we have discussed:

Laudo Si’, the second encyclical of Pope Francis, on care of our common home.

Listened to the Statement from the Heart and discussed the ideas which contributed to the Statement which was issued on 26 May, 2017. The Statement came after a series of regional consultations which sent delegates and ideas to the First Nations National Constitutional Convention at Uluru in May 2017. The Statement culminated in a Referendum to the Australian people in November 2023.

Eco-Winners aims to fund environmental projects for the parish. So far we have funded a recycled plastic bench seat, placed at Beams Road entrance of the church for the comfort of waiting parishioners. For the parish church we have contributed to the purchasing of LED lighting, efficient ceiling fans, and overhead screens which enable parishioners to follow the Mass while conserving paper and printing costs.

The project for 2023/2024 is to contribute to the cost of solar panels and whirly birds for the church.

Your Generosity. Our Mission.

One of the greatest contributions you can make to the mission of the Church is to leave your own legacy of faith for future generations. A gift in your will, no matter how big or small, is one way you can personally advance your faith and the work of the parish.
