"anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life" John 5: 24
When a Christian dies, the community gathers for a funeral.
Contact your funeral director who will arrange a meeting to discuss your wishes for the funeral. The funeral director will contact the Parish Office to ascertain availability of the Church and the Parish Priest. You can then arrange a meeting with the Priest to discuss the details of the Service.
Planning for the Requiem Mass or Funeral Liturgy
In the Catholic Church, you may choose between two types of 'funeral service'. It is most common for the funeral to be a Requiem (Funeral) Mass. The Mass is the greatest prayer of the Church because it makes present Christ's own death and resurrection and so is the most common form of Catholic funeral.
It is also possible to have a Funeral Liturgy, which includes readings from Sacred Scripture and Final Commendation. This form of funeral may be appropriate if many people attending the funeral are unfamiliar with the Church's liturgy.
In preparing for the funeral with the priest, you will be able to select from a variety of readings from Sacred Scripture, prayers and hymns that reflect the Catholic understanding of death and eternal life.
